McHale: Alcohol Dragged Griffin Down: During a conference call Wednesday Kevin McHale admitted that Eddie Griffin had started to drink again before the Timberwolves waived him in mid-March. McHale went on to call Griffin a “good-natured person with a lot of demons.” Eddie was planning on heading into a Houston rehabilitation clinic following his dismissal from the team just five months ago. Many former teammates have also spoken out regarding Griffin, calling him a good person but a very quiet individual. Once again my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Griffin family.

Taylor Will Try To Accommodate: Minnesota owner Glen Taylor appears to have accepted Juwan Howard’s recent trade demand, and hopes to be able to accommodate the former Michigan standout. The Timberwolves are talking with three teams about Howard in an attempt to deal lengthy contracts while acquiring young talent and future draft picks. Minnesota is already very young, so I’m not sure why Taylor would insist on more young guns. If Minnesota is going to contend in the very near future they are going to have to add some veteran pieces around guys like Randy Foye, Corey Brewer and Al Jefferson.

Renteria’s Return Lasts For One Pitch: Atlanta Braves’ shortstop Edgar Renteria returned to the plate for one pitch last night after missing three weeks because of an injured ankle. Edgar lasted just a few seconds against Cincinnati’s Bronson Arroyo on Wednesday night before leaving the game. The Braves re-evaluated the ankle on Thursday, and Renteria was placed back on the Disabled List. Edgar had been testing the ankle all week before being activated for Wednesday’s game, with the ankle holding up until the very first pitch he saw at the plate.

Pujols Sets MLB Mark: Albert Pujols had a pretty nice game on Wednesday night against the Florida Marlins. He homered for the fifth, and notched an RBI in his seventh, consecutive game. Pujols aimed to continue both streaks against Florida’s Rick VandenHurk last night, but was unsuccessful. What made his home run on Wednesday even more noteworthy was that it was the 30th of year for Pujols, making him the only player in Major League Baseball history to hit 30 or more dingers in each of his first seven professional seasons. Not too shabby.

Brady Welcomes Baby Boy: Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady and ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan welcomed a baby boy into the world late Wednesday. The child was born in Los Angeles, but other details were not released as of Thursday evening. Brady wasn’t on the field for the opening moments of New England’s Wednesday practice, but it is unknown as to whether Brady made it back to L.A. for the birth of his first child. Ultimately the little tike will start throwing a football better than me by the time he’s in kindergarten, with his well-defined chin and all. Damn those Brady genes.

Peyton Defends Eli: Peyton Manning knows how his little brother Eli is feeling; he once had a teammate question his leadership ability too. Former Colts’ kicker Mike Vanderjagt questioned Peyton’s abilities a few years ago, and now recently retired Giants’ running back Tiki Barber is knocking Eli. “Ex-players truly become ex-players right away, the No. 1 job is to criticize players,” said Peyton. Manning went on to say that he’ll defend all quarterbacks, not just Eli. I think the Manning’s’ have to realize that Tiki Barber is just doing his job (as Peyton said) by criticizing players now that he’s an “analyst.”
